The ODIS database comprises historical information on Flemish intermediary structures, the individuals active in them, and the publications and archives that they produced.

To that end a data model was set up, centred on five master-records, systematically linked with one another. ODIS makes use of a number of general database techniques, such as repeatable groups of fields and directional input. Where possible the data were brought into conformity with international norms.

The data model was implemented in an Oracle database. This is to be found on a webserver, and is equipped with input and output applications based on web technology. This means that the ODIS database can be easily accessed on the internet both by the partners in the ODIS project and by the general public, with the aid of a simple browser such as Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox.
