Info

The ODIS database comprises documentation on the history of civil society in Flanders and Belgium, with a focus on:

  • organisations or intermediary structures
  • individuals who were active in civil society
  • publications by and about these organisations and individuals
  • archives connected to these organisations and individuals

ODIS is a dynamic and contextual database. Numerous collections of data, tools and registers related to the central subject matter have been brought together here. This data has been supplemented, updated and linked by partners in the project.

Beginning of 2010, the database had amassed data on:

  • 24,935 organisations, 3397 of which are available in the public catalogue
  • 72,417 individuals, 27,189 of which are available in the public catalogue
  • 21,649 publications, 15,445 of which are available in the public catalogue
  • 8353 archival documents, 7086 of which are available in the public catalogue

All suggestions and remarks concerning the aim and contents of the database are welcome at info@odis.be.

As a research resource centre, ODIS promotes innovative, multidisciplinary and comparative research into civil society, furthering cross-fertilisation between historians, social scientists and custodians of the heritage connected to this subject (archivists, librarians, documentalists).
